WHAT IS WORLDWIDE VIRTUAL GOLF?

It takes your typical round of golf and adds real competition

Worldwide Virtual Golf allows you to create and play in recreational golf tournaments, with participants that can span the entire globe. Every time you head out to the course, you could be competing against friends in cities across the country, or against other golfers from across the globe. Planning a round at your local course this week? Create a Private Tournament and invite your golf buddies, even if they have to play on different courses. Sign up for a Worldwide Tournament and you’ll be competing against golfers all over the world. Where will you stand in the rankings?

HOW ARE FAIR TOURNAMENTS POSSIBLE ACROSS MULTIPLE COURSES?

The WVG Handicap Algorithm factors out the differences in course difficulty

Nearly every course in the world has a Slope Rating and a Par. The WVG Handicap Algorithm (which is applied to your score after you enter it on the website) uses this information to factor out the differences in course difficulty, so that players’ scores represent only their golf skills and how they played during a particular round. No matter where you and your opponents play from, you can rest assured that you will all be competing on an equal playing field.

DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT DURING MY ROUND WHEN COMPETING IN A TOURNAMENT?

No, just remember to upload your score after your round

You do not do anything different during your round of golf when competing in our tournaments. The magic of the website happens after your round when you upload your score. That's when the WVG Handicap algorithm is applied to your score, which factors out the differences in course difficulty. With Worldwide Virtual Golf, all you have to is play golf and we'll handle the rest.

HOW DO TOURNAMENTS WORK?

Just play golf, we'll handle the rest

Tournaments on Worldwide Virtual Golf are recreational competitions and are designed to be flexible; participants can play from any course in the world on whatever day works for them. Once you're in a tournament, you are free to head out to the course whenever it's most convenient for you, just remember to play your round(s) and upload your score(s) before the specified End Date of the tournament. You don't have to do anything different during your round when competing in a tournament. Just play golf normally, upload your score, and the website will handle the rest. Once the tournament has ended (always on a Sunday), you will be able to see the results.

WHAT TYPES OF TOURNAMENTS CAN I PLAY IN?

Choose between Private, Worldwide, and Major Pro Tournaments

Worldwide Virutal Golf offers three types of tournaments to play in:

  • PRIVATE TOURNAMENTS

  • WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENTS

Join golfers from around the world in this weekly global competition. Just enter yourself, play a round at your local course, and enter your scores on the site. We'll handle the scoring so that competition is fair (learn how our fair scoring system works) You choose when and where you play. Where will you stand in the global rankings?

  • MAJOR PRO TOURNAMENTS

Put yourself in the lineup of the four Major Pro tour tournaments to compete with the Pros themselves. The only thing that can make the Master more enjoyable is playing in the Masters. You play from your local course, the Pros play from the actual tournament course, and the difference in course difficulty is factored out (learn how our fair scoring system works). Available for The Masters, US Open, Open Championship, and PGA Championship.

WHAT ARE PRIVATE TOURNAMENTS?

Friendly competitions that take place over multiple courses and days

Private Tournaments are casual golf competitions between you and your friends that can take place over separate courses. It is not a video game, these are real golf tournaments that take place on real courses. As opposed to the other tournament types on Worldwide Virtual Golf, Private Tournaments are designed to be completely customizable, so you can decide the End Date, the number of rounds, and who gets invited. Private Tournament are created only for the members of a Group, and everyone that wants to participate in your Private Tournament needs to be a member of that Group. Remember, although you may be playing your rounds on different days or on courses than your friends, you are directly competing head-to-head against the members of that group (learn how our fair scoring system works). Each member has to play their rounds and enter their scores on the website before the specified End Date of the tournament. After the End Date passes, then you will be able to see the tournament results and how you placed compared to your friends.

WHAT ARE WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENTS?

Casual tournaments with golfers from across the world

Sign up for a Worldwide Tournament and you could be competing directly against golfers from around the world during your next round of golf. These competitions allows users to compete in a single global tournament against other WVG members. A different Worldwide Tournament ends each Sunday, so you can sign up for one that ends this week or a couple months from now, whatever gives you the right amount of time to head out to your local course for four rounds. Any member can participate, and their rounds can be played from any course and on any day they choose. Our advanced algorithm will factor out course difficulty, so players’ WVG Handicap scores represent only their golf skills and how they played during that particular round (learn how it works). WHAT ARE MAJOR PRO TOURNAMENTS?

Place yourself in the lineup of the Majors for fun

WorldwideVirtualGolf.com offers users the power to play against anyone in the world at any time and from any course, so why not play in the Majors? Major Pro Tournaments are “just-for-fun” games that allows you to compete head-to-head against the Pros in real golf, no matter when or where you play your round(s). You play from your local course, the Pros play from the actual tournament course, and the difference in course difficulty is factored out (learn how our fair scoring system works). So sign up, tee off, and make sure you play your best game possible. Players’ scores only receive a small boost over the Pros, so don’t count on your adjusted WVG score to put you on top. Every shot counts, just like at Augusta National. The pressure is on.

HOW DO I CREATE A PRIVATE TOURNAMENT?

Select a group, set the end date, and play some golf

The first step to creating a tournament is selecting a Group to play with. If you don't have any groups, head over to the Groups page to create one, or read up on the purpose of Groups in the sections below.

  1. Once you have a Group in mind and have invited all the golfers you want to play with, go to the Tournaments page to get started.

  2. Click the “Join/Sign Up” button below the Private Tournaments section, the dialog box at the bottom of the screen will switch to the Private Tournaments tab. “Create New Tournament” will already be selected, so keep that and move onto the next step.

  3. Select the End Date of your tournament. The End Date determines when participants have to play their rounds and upload their scores. The more rounds in your tournament, the longer into the future you should set the End Date; you don't want your opponents to run out of time before they have a chance to play. All End Dates are on Sundays.

  4. Finally, select the group you want to invite from the drop down menu, and choose between one and four days (rounds) required for your tournament.

Once you click save, you'll be taken to the Invite Email page, where you can choose within your group who you want to invite using automatic emails.

WHAT ARE GROUPS?

The easiest way to create tournaments with your friends

Groups allow you to easily organize your friends on the site and quickly create tournaments with them. If you want to play in a Private Tournament, you have to be in a group. Groups are the core of the Private Tournament, as you can only create tournaments for the Groups you belong to. You can create or belong to as many groups as you want, and invite anyone in the world to join them. Once you've created the group, you'll be able to send friends the Group Name and Password. They'll be able to search for the Group on the Groups page, and quickly join by just entering the password.

HOW DO I CREATE A GROUP?

You can create groups on the Groups page

To create a group, head over to the Groups page, and look for the “Create New Group” at the bottom of the page. On the Golf Groups page, you'll be able to set a unique name and password so others can find and join your group later. Click the save button to finish creating your groups. Clicking the “Invitation Email' button will send your group info to the email you used to sign up for the site. You can use this email to easily forward the group information to whomever you'd like.

HOW DO I INVITE PEOPLE TO MY TOURNAMENT?

Send out the invite email

When you create a tournament, you start by selecting the Group you want to play with. The groups you are currently in are listed on the Groups page. When you finish creating a tournament, you will be automatically redirected to the Invite Email page, where you can select the members of the chosen Group you wish to send automatic invites to.

If you wish to invite more people to a tournament anytime after you create one, just send them the name and password (which you can find on the Groups page) of the Group participating in this tournament. Members can search for your Group in the Add an Existing Group to My Groups section of the Groups page. Once the member joins your group, you can go to the My Upcoming Tournaments section, select the group from the box, and click the “Review” button. This will start the invite email process over again, and you'll be able to select the new member(s) to send an email to with a quick link to join your tournament.

HOW DO I JOIN A TOURNAMENT?

Head over to the Tournaments page and click a Join button

  • PRIVATE TOURNAMENTS

In order to join a friend's Private Tournament, you must belong to the Group your friend selected for the Tournament. If you are not already in the group, you must get another member of the group to send you the Name and Password info so that you can find and join it in the Add an Existing Group to My Groups section of the Groups page.

Once you are in the group, you have two options to join. A friend who is already signed up for the tournament can send you an invite email by going to the My Upcoming Tournaments section of the Tournaments page, and clicking the Review button to start the invite process. Alternatively, you can just go over to the Tournaments page, click the “Create/Join” button under Private Tournaments, select “Join Existing Tournament” from the first drop down box, and select the End Date of the Tournament from the second drop down menu. Take note of the number of rounds required for the tournament, and click “Save.”

  • WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENTS

You can join a Worldwide Tournament at any time, regardless of Groups, as Worldwide Tournaments automatically include everyone who chooses to sign up. To join a Worldwide Tournament, head over to the Tournaments page, and click on the “Sign Up” button under the Worldwide Tournaments section. Since Worldwide Tournaments end on Sunday each week, the only decision you have to make is which End Date to select. Worldwide Tournaments require four rounds of golf scores to be entered before the End date, so select a date that gives you plenty of time to head out to the course four different times.

  • MAJOR PRO TOURNAMENTS

The Major Pro tournaments mimic the Major tournaments that take place each year on the professional level (The Masters, The British Open, The US Open, and the PGA Championship), so there are only four of these Tournaments each year. You can sign up for them by going to the Tournaments page, and clicking the “Sign Up” button under the Major Pro Tournaments section. In the dialog box, you can check off the tournaments you wish to participate in (our corresponding Major Tournaments are titled the Augusta Open, the American Open, the English Open, and the VGA Championship). The end date for these tournaments are the same as their real life counterparts. You will be the only one competing in this tournament against the Pros in real life, so you cannot invite friends to play with.

HOW DO I ENTER MY SCORES?

After your round, log on to the Scores page

To enter your golf score for any tournament type, head over to the Scores page. First, you need to select the course you played on so the site can use the correct slope and par info to create a fair tournament. You can search our database of courses for the one you played on by typing in the name of the course in the “Golf Course Played” text box and clicking the “Search” button. If the course was in our database, you can select it from the drop down menu that pops up on the right of the screen. Selecting the Tee box you played from will automatically enter the info into your form. If your course was not found in our database, you can enter the Slope and Par info manually into their relative text boxes, but do your best to make sure that info is correct.

Next, all you have to do it enter the date you played, select the End Date of your Tournament, and type in your score. Clicking the Save button enters your score into the tournament.

HOW DOES WORLDWIDE VIRTUAL GOLF TRACK MY STATS?

Your stats are based on the scores you enter to the site

Worldwide Virtual Golf will automatically track some statistics based on the scores you enter when playing in tournaments. Since the site has to know your score and the information of the course you played on, it can track multiple stats automatically. Worldwide Virtual Golf will track your scores over time, your lowest score ever, your average score over the last 12 months, your results in tournaments, as well as which courses where you perform the best. You can find these Stats at the bottom half of your Dashboard.
